The Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary
31 km east of Gangtok on the road to Tsomgo Lake is the visually appealing Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary. Accessible from the Kyongnosla village, the sanctuary is spread over 31 sq. km between altitudes of 3200m to 4200m. Impeyn Pheasant, Satyr Tragopan, Blood Pheasant are some of the avifauna inhabiting the park. The valleys are awash with the colour of the seasonal flowers, from blue poppies to pale yellow puppies to purple irises. Rare medicinal plants are endemic to the Kyongnosia Alpine Sanctuary. These include the Cypripedium elegans, Poophyllum emodii, Aconitum spp and Nardostachys grandiflora.

Animals like musk deer, the goat like serow and goral and the langur dwell in the Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary. As for birds, apart from the laughing thrush, the blue whistling thrush, redstarts and forktails are found near the waterfalls and hill-streams. The warblers, tit-babblers, tree-creepers, white-eyes, wrens, rose finches, .yellow- bellied fantail flycatchers, minlas and yuh~nas flock the rhododendrons and silver firs; Besides these, birds of prey like the black eagle, blackwinged kite and kestrel circle the skies.
